Reinforce Your Seawalls to Prevent Further Damage to Your Imperial Beach Property

Residents and businesses in areas throughout our area, like Imperial Beach, CA, Oceano, Ca, Surfside, Ca, and Sunset Beach, Ca are familiar with the coastal walls that keep the waves from the sea at bay. Sea walls protect areas of public or homeowner use from the eroding effects of the sea. It redirects wave energy back into the sea, keeping the land from breaking away over time, or quickly during storms. What many people may not know, is that seawalls need reinforcement years after they are built. The following are reasons why seawalls begin to fail.

  • Poor maintenance
  • Lack of inspection to detect problems early
  • Placing loads atop the soil supported by the seawall
  • Shallow building foundations placed too close to the wall
  • Changing water flow and trapping large quantities of water behind seawall
  • Changing cover depth of anchor system, which diminishes the seawall anchor's capacityReinforce Your Seawalls to Prevent Further Damage to Your Imperial Beach Property - Image 1
  • Raising elevation and load beyond seawall design limits
  • Driving heavy vehicles and/or equipment too close to seawall
  • Using materials that can't withstand harsh, corrosive marine environments

Saber Foundation Repair has adapted their wall and foundation stabilization techniques to service the unique challenges to seawalls throughout Southern California. Helical anchors, also called tiebacks or earth screws, provide the lateral support to firmly secure the wall to the shore.

Holes are bored into the seawall in the locations of the helical anchors. Using high torque with a hydraulic drilling rig, helical tie-backs are driven into the wall, landward. In some cases, extension shafts, with or without helix plates, may be required for the helical to reach load-bearing strata. A strong beam is then secured to the anchor rod at the seawall.

ADVANTAGES TO HELICAL SEAWALL ANCHORS

  • Requires no excavation
  • No Waiting for concrete to cure
  • Can be installed in any weather, and in confined spaces
  • Reduced labor and equipment costs
  • Installed and tensioned immediately
  • Length and bearing can be adjusted onsite
  • May be adjusted at angles to avoid pools and other structures
  • Can be installed from sea or land side, minimizing disruption to docks, lawns, and gardens
  • Anchors are removable and extendable
