Crawl Space Encapsulation Against Allergens in Laguna Beach, Ca.
The owner of a home in Laguna Beach had been having crawl space issues for a long time. The home had been built in 1936, and the homeowner had been occupying the home for 12 years when he reached out to Saber. He had been concerned about moisture beneath his house that had been causing allergens and humidity to circulate throughout the upper floors, triggering his asthma. Though there was no mold present at the time, the crawl space emitted a musty and damp odor. There was also a problem with rodents and other pests in the area.
He had received a little professional advice on the topic of crawl space encapsulation but wanted Saber to come to do a complete 90-minute inspection of the crawl space and provide an estimate of repairs. He was also very interested in the energy savings potential and storage space availability that comes with the CleanSpace encapsulation system.
In order to eliminate any further occurrence of moisture and standing water in the crawl space, 690 sq. ft. of CleanSpace drainage matting and liner was required to aid in wicking water from the soils to prevent it from pooling at the surface. The CleanSpace liner, matting, and post wraps were installed to keep allergens out of the air, create a moisture barrier between the home and the soil, as well as dehumidify the crawlspace.
Moist air that enters a vented crawl space will condense on cooler crawl space surfaces, ruining insulation and encouraging mold, mildew/wood decay to spread. Four crawl space vent covers were installed at the Long Beach home in order to protect it from outside temperature and coastal humidity conditions, as well as pests.
The homeowner was very pleased with the final result and looked forward to cleaner air circulation throughout his home as well as the elimination of odors. He was happy that his home now promoted energy conservation and any further damage to insulation and HVAC beneath his home would stop.
