Repairing Home During Remodeling in Bakersfield
Bakersfield resident Vikie E. contacted Saber when she was having her home remodeled. Her home was built in 1980. The carpet and padding had been removed, and there were several cracks in the home's Foundation. Saber's Project Design Specialist performed a thorough inspection of Vickie's home. Voids were found under her home Foundation. These voids had caused a large portion of the home's Foundation to sink. The weakened Foundation was now cracking. We verified that parts of the Concrete Slab had sunk as much as one inch.
Saber's crew excavated holes and trenches next to the Foundation. We then Installed Steel Beams and Push Piers, to lift and strengthen the parts of the foundation that had sunk. The the voids were filled with Polyurethane, by using Saber's State-of-the-Art Polylevel Injection Process. The attached picture shows part of this process. The entire concrete slab Foundation now had a constant elevation. Saber's crew then filled in the trenches and holes. Excavated concrete had been removed and disposed. New concrete was poured.
Vicki was happy with our work. She could now continue with the remodeling, that she had started. Vicki also had peace of mind that her home Foundation was much stronger, and much more stable.
Commercial Office/Maintenance Building Floor Sinking in Santa Barbara, Ca.
In Santa Barbara, Ca. an older maintenance building was renovated into a suite of offices. The concrete slab floor was found to be sloping inward from the center of the structure. The area used to be an open parking lot for large utility trucks, and the weight over time had caused the slab to sink. Cracks in the office walls had appeared after the renovation along with other symptoms of foundation settlement.
After Saber's inspection, PolyLevel expanding polyurethane foam was found to be the most effective and permanent solution. The waterproof foam would not only provide soil stabilization but also allow for the slab to be raised to level without any expensive removal and replacement of concrete. Before the application of the PolyLevel, the office staff had the carpets, desks, and other furniture removed from the project area.
200 lbs. of PolyLevel foam was injected into ports 5/8" in diameter, equally spaced throughout the sinking area of the slab; along the Southern and Northern sides of the building, 25 ft. down each wall. The owner of the business was able to see their floor slab raise to level and was quite impressed with PolyLevel and the ease and inconspicuousness of the application (each port was sealed with a small concrete patch). Everything was able to be replaced within the offices, cracks in walls had closed. The job only took one day, and no one could tell that any form of construction had occurred.

Pauline was impressed with Evan. She writes, "Evan was very knowledgeable about earthquake retrofitting. He did a thorough job inspecting the existing foundation and tie-ins, complete with pictures. His explanation of what was entailed was clear. He was easy to talk to and could answer all my questions.
